WANGANUI AIR TRAINING CORPS PARADE
INSTRUCTORS FROM OHAKEA MORE ENROLMENTS SOUGHT Advice has been received that the Wanganui unit of the Neu Zealand Air Training Corps is to be known as the No. 9 Squadron. A.T.C. The second parade of the squa* ron was held at the Technical College on Tuesday night and was in charge of Captain E. B. Tustin, acting-fligh:-rommander. There was a muster o» 54 cadets, all of them keenly Interested in the work which lies before them in stimulating the air defence of the Dominion.
The training syllabus at present cons L-ts of drill in charge of a sergeant from the Ohakea Air Statioi-.' and lectures by officers from there. Physical training is in charge of tne Physical Welfare Department. At the parade on Tuesday the lecturing was done hy Flight-Lieutenant Wafers, adjutant at the Ohakea Air Station. He expressed himself as highly pleased at the hearing and kennes.of those on parade. Up the present no non-commis-sioned officers have heen appointed, hut it is expected that classes ror prospective n.c.o.’s will he started in the near future. No definite appointments of officers have been made as yet, nut. in the meantime. Captain F. W. Gilligan is acting as squadroncommander. Distinctive lapel badges are to be issued to the cadets to be worn on civilian clothing, and. early In the Neu Year, uniforms are to be available. Al present there are 6<» cadets in the No. 9 Squadron and it is hoped to reach a strength of 100 in the very near future. In addition there are two secondary school cadet units tn Wanganui. Collegiate and Technical Recruits for the squadron are being sought now and applicants can obtain full information from Captarn Tustin. Boys eligible to join must he between 161 to ]8 years of age.
